    The Cinematics

This Glasgow foursome's influences range from early Post Punk (Wire, Magazine, Television) to legends like The Smashing Pumpkins, The Cure and Talking Heads as well as one of their favorites, Jeff Buckley. Their blend of accessible indie pop falls into the realm of the current crop of bands that includes Editors, Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party. If all of that name dropping doesn't do it for you, just pick up their debut full-length A Strange Education, featuring standout tracks like Human and Home.

    JR

Ok, yet another Scottish artist influenced by Jeff Buckley. JR packed herself up to London, armed with an aresnal of influences including Jeff Buckley, The Blue Nile, Annie Lennox and Kate Bush. Her debut, Life Tastes Sweeter was independently released, but don't count on her being underground for long. Tracks like Troubled Soul and Bleed For Love show the promise of someone in it for the long haul.

    Ror-Shak

This Drum and Bass duo got a huge kickstart when vocalist Julee Cruise agreed not only to allow a sample but to write and sing on the record. Contributions from Chantal Claret (Morningwood), Wendy Starland, Mark Holmes and Lisa Shaw followed. Their debut CD, Deep was released last week.

    Jakki Jelene

Michigan songwriter, Jakki Jelene is known in the Dreampop world for her love of female ethereal vocals. Her Angelic Voices discussion forum is a popular gathering place on the web for the appreciation of female vocalists within the dream-pop/trip-hop genre. With her new CD, Reflections, Jakki is hoping to make her own mark on the scene.
