DrOctagon Pontification on BSH and Auralgasms..

Okay folks, its your friendly neighborhood Droctagonocologist! As usual, when provoked, moved by the spirit, intoxicated, influenced, compelled, or just down out right bored, I have to start a thread on a topic that I find meaningful on a musical level. With that said, I use the opportunity to start threads just as middle eastern saharan nomads use their water - sparringly and only out of necessity.

Since I've been a member of Auralgasms, I've heard many good things about a show called Big Sonic Heaven. I've even heard Mikey, Zumby, and countless faithful auralgasms listeners 'pontificate' on how much they miss the show and desire its return. Well, being new to the station myself here on Auralgasms for the last two years roughly, I always held in my mind that this BSH Show must have been of epic proportions. I was thinking to myself, "what is this show Big Sonic Heanven all about?" Well, after reading the message boards here on Aural, I found where someone posted the link to their show that was revived.

Now, please forgive me if you are reading this and I mis-represent anything and I welcome your correction, but, unfortunately I just don't see what the hype is all about. I listened to the station and I found the music good. Was it different or was it unique? I'd have to say no. The reason being is this: every song they played, I've heard in rotation here on Auralgasms. Not only did I hear those songs on Auralgasms, but I've actually heard those songs mixed in rotation with other musical genres that fall under the bliss catergory that Auralgasms represents. I mean, if BSH was something you listened to during your formative years (college, high school, military years, etc), then I am not saying that it wasn't a good show for its time. I'm not even saying that the shows I listened to online as of late were representative of the quality of the show during its hey-day. I'm not saying the show isn't good in and of itself. What I am saying is, Auralgasms has soooooooooo much more going for it in terms of not only the music but the community it builds. Think about it. Where else online does a station play the type of music we listen to where the founders of the site allow you to not only listen for FREE, request songs, build message boards, post videos for each respective artist, but also allows you to host the show with music that may/may not fit in with the overarching genre of bliss! Even further, how many times have Mikey or Zumby NOT BEEN ABLE to answer a question relating to our field of music that we so desperately love? How many radio stations online or the air will have DJ's that respond to your emails daily in regards to your questions, concerns, comments, or just outright rants (such as this one)?

That's my point! Very few if any. The larger point I am emphasizing in my musical philosophical apology here is not so much that BSH isn't good or any other online station for that matter. Rather, my appeal to all of us listeners is to appreciate the blessing of this Auralgasms bird that we currently hold in our hand, instead of focusing on the two in the bush that may fly away. If we don't support and spread the word about this online station, then due to lack of listener support, they'll be gone. Then, we'll be crying about not how BSH was a good station, but rather how much we miss Auralgasms and eagerly await its return.

In my honest opinion, I think the people who long for the defunct programs like BSH, MTV 160 Minutes, Yo MTV Raps, etc, are not longing so much for the music. I think they (myself including) are nostalgic in longing for that particular period in their life that has now passed, never to return again. Since it won't ever return again, I say let us support the best thing going right now in our life right now with good music being made that is under-appreciated right now, which is...Auralgasms..

Sorry to rant..I apologize for any offense...I am not targeting specifically BSH, but I am just using them as a concept as an example for a larger point. I wish BSH and any other station promoting good music much success. I just want Aural listeners to not become spoiled and miss this great opportunity within our grasps currently transpiring before our eyes which is Auralgasms. Because, the truth is indeed as Morrissey says, "It Could All End Tomorrow".
