Blisscent

Call it what you will: Shoegazing, Space Rock, Noisepop, Dreampop... some of the most influential bands of the 80s and 90s have sadly gone un-noticed. Artists such as The Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, Cocteau Twins, Ride, Slowdive....have laid the groundwork for some of today's most exciting underground artists. Odds are that you've never heard most of them

Nelson Ferreira, of Blisscent Records, is seeing to it, that you will. Nelson began Blisscent as a mailing list in June 2000, and it is currently occupied by over 3000 members. Nelson spawned this internet home of Dreampop and Shoegazer Music. Nelson states, "Blisscent is where information about what is currently happening within the D&S world may be known to its members. Blisscent's other goal is as an Egroup MAG, of some sorts, where certain standards are regular."

Around that same time Nelson branched out into radio. Nelson's Blisscent may be heard on Tuesdays, 10pm-Midnight, on 91.1 WSMU North Dartmouth, Massachusetts. Listen live on-line at WSMU's Site. Blisscent will be aired 24 hours a day, via a webcast, by the end of the summer.

Nelson has and still works with the Indie Magazine, Losing Today. LT has a circulation of 15,000. This amount will only increase after the one year hiatus is lifted this upcoming September, and the regularity will increase and take form of a quarterly. This diverse mag, with a concentration on Dreampop and Shoegazer related music, has served well for Nelson when it comes to his accountability of their festivals and all other writing requirements.

However, his crowning achievement, and the focus of this feature, is Blisscent Records. As terrific as his efforts have been, it is all about the music. On July 25, 2002, Blisscent Records will release Blisscent I, a breathtaking compilation of sonic beauty. One listen will have you spellbound, as you relive the glory days of music, and hope for what could be. Order on-line!!!
