For this months' feature, I'd like to focus some attention on the work of 3 young ladies from the Northeastern US. Dana Wagner, Gretchen Corl, and Nicky Rheaume. As you know, Auralgasms is committed to finding new and exciting aritsts to provide you with a break from the drivel of mainstream radio. We are all about promoting these artists. In October 2000, 3 frustrated music fans: Dana, Gretchen and Nicky formed Public Awareness, a Booking and Promotions company. Over the last few months some of the most exciting artists that Troy and I have been able to feature on Auralgasms, come from this Booking group.

So, it is my pleasure to provide a little detail on the group itself and a sampling of their artists....

Mission Statement

Our challenge is to proactively find and connect emerging, independent musical artists with their audience, while developing a customized promotional strategy for each artist.

Who Are We
Public Awareness Booking & Promotion Company formed in October 2000, the brainchild of three music enthusiasts who believe that there are too many incredible independent musicians who are simply not receiving the attention they deserve. We were doubly frustrated at having to drive or fly to other states in order to see some of our favorite musical artists perform. The three of us have all done booking and promotions for Emm Gryner, one of our favorite musicians and the impetus for starting this company, and had been doing voluntary promotional work for Atlantic Records, Capitol Records, Nelly Furtado, and many artists on Gabriel Unger Artist Management (Erin McKeown, Jess Klein, Meghan Toohey, et al). Since we all want to make the music business our profession of choice one day, we decided to begin pursuing that path immediately. We are a tri-city company based in the Washington,DC/Virginia, New York City, and Boston areas. For more information, please contact us directly at info@publicawareness.net

Interesting Facts
When Def Leppard's frontman Joe Elliott heard "Pour Some Sugar On Me" from Emm Gryner's latest record Girl Versions he was a thrilled veteran rocker, having this to say: "Emm Gryner...has done an absolutely stunningly fabulous piano version of "Pour Some Sugar On Me", which ...had everybody in the band drooling!"

Pop imp Nelly Furtado listed Emm's Science Fair as one of her Top 5 albums in a recent VH1 poll

Songwriting icon Ron Sexsmith called Emm's song "Stereochrome" "one of the most beautiful melodies I've heard in a while."

Emm's ongoing association with the legendary David Bowie (playing keyboards and singing in his band) yielded a suggestion from the Thin White Duke that she cover a song by Robert Wyatt, and so she did. "Sea Song" appears on Girl Versions.

While various rumours were swirling around about the next new Emm album, she was busy weaseling her way onto recordings by the very scary Rob Zombie (due out in September 2001) and also sang alongside Curtis Mayfield on Bran Van 3000's smash hit "Astounded"

And after months of seclusion near Woodstock, NY, writing songs and playing clubs in Boston, NY and DC, Emm finally found her producer, for her next original album, in Wally Gagel, (The Folk Implosion, Eels, Sebadoh, Superchunk) with whom she will continue to record in L.A. following the Canadian release of her covers album.

Recently Emm's song "Southern Dreamer" was a featured track in the Asian-American feature film "The Debut", to which Roger Ebert gave an enthusiastic two thumbs up. Continuing to support her Filipino heritage, Emm has performed at countless Asian-American Arts festivals in New York, and appeared alongside Asian Dub Foundation and others on Plugged In 1, a compilation sponsored by AsianAvenue.Com.

Although the idea of a covers album was by demand of her fans, Emm is also causing a stir on Tori Amos mailing lists, where the news of her covers record has intrigued Tori fans everywhere...as Tori Amos releases her Strange Little Girls album in September. Emm was thrilled to hear that although Tori covers Eminem and Depeche Mode, she steered clear of the Emm cover repertoire, including Fugazi, The Clash and Nick Cave!

Emm also wonders if now she will have to marry her drummer and start a girl festival, as Chart Magazine recently voted Emm "the next Sarah McLachlan".

When not touring and writing, Emm is an internet pioneer, running her Dead Daisy Records label primarily through internet sales. Her website emmgryner.com received it's highest hits ever this month, and is regarded as one of the most interactive sites of its kind.

Cameron Dezen
In light of the events that have transpired this week, Cameron would like everyone to know that she is safe and thanks everyone for their concern and their e-mails. She also wanted to put her song Here Comes the Night on the web so anyone could download it freely, burn it to cd, and find comfort in the lyrics and music. Feel free to pass it on to a friend as well. Please visit her site

"This New York City singer-songwriter has definitely got what it takes" - The Village Voice, 6.20.01
Appear and I Write, is not featured on this page, let me assure you that her 'second rate' fair is just as stunning.
Sounding as if singing is effortless, she inspires the listener to join in and feel like part of her song.
Do get this album, if only to hear and surround yourself with the last track.--Lena
I saw Cameron live for the first time in May, and she puts on a fabulous show. She blew the audience away with her powerful voice and presence. I can't wait to see her play again!--rockchick
Recommended by the good folks at Dreamsawake.com as well as Public Awareness.

Cameron's music runs the gamut from acoustic to trip hop beats, to piano ballads. Her genre bending musical style and vocal reach bring to mind Dido, Sarah, Beth Orton, Fiona apple, and Heather Nova.

Her style, however is all her own. Expect Cameron to make some noise!--Z
Cameron Dezen is a delight! I got the opportunity to hear and see her live when she opened for Emm Gryner at Metro Cafe a few months ago. She's awesome! Bought her album immediately after hearing her live show - very good stuff! I highly recommend! She's also very friendly and personable!--LaineyM
Infectious!!!! Since first hearing of her a couple of days ago and getting the CD, I am hooked. I pop it in my laptop at work, and it just goes goes by too quickly. Haunt me is a great tune! Buy this...you will not regret it...--peppy
One of the things that continuously amazes me about this album is Cameron's musical diversity. No two songs on the disc are alike. With such a wide variety of styles, from the solo piano ballad "You Appear and I Write" to the samples and beats on "Firehouse" or "Haunt Me," or
the R&B flavor of "Undermind," Cameron defies the label "singer-songwriter" and has become one of the most unique musicians in the independent scene today. Her voice is spellbinding, and the entire album purely addictive.

Also don't miss her stunning live performances, where her powerful
voice truly shines. After seeing Cameron numerous times in a live
setting, I say without hesitation that she is one of my favorite
performers who seems to get stronger and better each time around.
